Head of Electronics & Software
Position Overview
As Head of Electronics & Software you will have an action-oriented mindset with a focus on exceeding expectations, whilst operating with vision and integrity. You will drive first-to-world innovation across a range of projects in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
You will be expected to work on development projects as well as providing support for the electronics and software team, both pastoral and technical. You will meet with, and report back to, senior management on progress and issues on projects. You will also work with senior management to develop and implement strategies to grow the Electronics & Software function and maintain the highest quality output. This will include hiring and performance management, development and review of processes and procedures, identifying and developing new capabilities focused on winning business in new areas, pitching to potential clients, supporting the planning and quoting of new work, and resource management.
Ideally, you will have a knowledge and experience of working on medical products in compliance with the IEC62304 and IEC60601 standards.
To be successful in this position you will deliver exceptional leadership, communication and project management skills and a belief in developing the skills and talents of others. You will deploy your experience in identifying and navigating technical challenges and have a keen interest in international trends in Electronics & Software.

Principal Responsibilities
- Reporting to senior management
- Maintaining good relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Providing technical guidance to the Electronics & Software team, sales team and senior management
- Hiring and performance managing the Electronics & Software team
- Supporting the process by which Electronics & Software team resource is assigned to projects
- Driving continuous improvement of best-in-class development procedures particularly focused on medical product development complying with IEC62304 and IEC60601 standards, and overseeing the successful integration of them into the business
- Working closely with the senior leadership team to identify and develop strategies that contribute to the overall strategic growth for the business, and then proactively implement them
- Identifying and implementing ways to improve project delivery
- Leading others to realise your technical solutions
- Leading continuous improvement and evolving a lean, agile, culture
- Project planning, generating budgets, writing quotes and presenting them to clients
- Customer facing responsibilities
- Providing commercial awareness to understand our clients’ needs and the world in which they operate to enable us to build new relationships and identify new opportunities
- Helping Crux become a trusted partner for all our clients - our team will become an extension of theirs and you will help shape and guide their ambitions
- Assisting with client liaison from attending briefings, project kick-offs, reviews and handling customer complaints
- You will have the ability to see the bigger picture - you will understand and articulate the value we bring across the markets we operate in
- Providing creative solutions that help our clients achieve their goals
What We’re Looking For
Essential
- Extensive experience of Electronics and Software product development, with at least some being in Medical (complying with IEC62304 and IEC60601 standards).
- Proven experience in an Electronics and/or Software leadership role.
- Experience of leading, developing and building teams.
- Strong commercial awareness.
- Excellent strategic planning and organisational skills.
- Effective presentation and interpersonal communication skills with internal and external stakeholders.
- The ability to travel occasionally to client sites.
Desirable
- Experience of commercial accountability for a function.
- Experience of new business development.
- Client facing experience including pitching and delivery.
- Understanding of ISO 13485 and regulatory frameworks like FDA 21 CFR Part 820 and EU Medical Device Regulation (MDR).
