Lab & Workshop Technician
Position Overview
Crux is looking for a Lab & Workshop Technician to be responsible for the smooth day-to-day running of Crux’s lab and workshop facilities. This is a hands-on role where organisation, tidiness, and safety are key. You will organise, maintain and calibrate equipment, manage inventory and consumables, and provide practical support to our engineering and design teams.
A core responsibility is to ensure all staff using the lab and workshop follow Crux’s procedures, always maintaining the highest standards of health and safety. You will also deliver inductions and training on safe equipment use and promote a culture of respect for shared spaces.
Depending on experience, this role may also include coordinating, maintaining safety documentation, and supporting the Head of Operations in identifying improvements and future growth strategies to ensure our facilities remain best-in-class.
Principal Responsibilities
Facilities & Equipment Management
- Maintain daily organisation, tidiness, and safety across the lab and workshop.
- Ensure all equipment is calibrated, serviced, and in good working order.
- Manage equipment inventory and consumables stock levels.
- Support equipment installations and test setups for engineering projects.
- Monitor the lab and workshop infrastructure.
Training & Safety
- Conduct safety inductions and equipment training for new and existing staff.
- Maintain training records, risk assessments, COSHH assessments, and SDS information.
- Enforce health and safety policies, stopping unsafe activities where necessary.
- Provide updates on upcoming testing and any associated risks.
Collaboration & Coordination
- Work with project management to schedule lab equipment and resources.
- Maintain archives of client samples and project items.
- Act as a point of contact for lab and workshop queries.
Continuous Improvement
- Suggest and implement improvements to lab facilities, processes, and equipment.
- Work with the Head of Operations to plan for future lab and workshop growth.
General
- Support Crux’s continual development by raising suggestions for improvement.
- Comply with all company Health & Safety and Quality Management policies.
- Carry out any reasonable task requested by the company.
What We’re Looking For
Essential
- Proven experience in supporting a lab and workshop environment.
- Strong understanding of equipment calibration and maintenance procedures.
- Ability to maintain and support training documentation and deliver safety training.
- Demonstrated commitment to health and safety standards, with experience in risk assessments, COSHH regulations, and enforcing procedural compliance.
- Strong organisational and archival management skills.
- Excellent communication skills, able to collaborate effectively with engineering teams.
